He has managed and worked with small and large teams on critical enterprise infrastructure and initiatives, with small and multi-million dollar budgets and unrealistic timelines. He has used computer systems ranging from micros, to minis, to mainframes, to distributed computing environments, and everything in between. He has designed, implemented, and managed dozens of small and large networks from corporate and ISP environments with essential 7x24 operations and 99.99% uptime requirements to development environments with no uptime requirements. He has recently focused on enterprise storage and security for SAN, NAS, intranet, and Internet infrastructures. Before that, he worked on high availability systems design and implementation, including network engineering, system administration, and security, for large e-commerce web sites. Jeff also enjoys complex network engineering, VPN solutions to allow for secure remote access to corporate information, system and network security, and other bleeding edge technology. Over the years Jeff has been called Sr Escalation Engineer, Sr Principal Engineer, Senior Principal Engineer, Senior Tier 3 Engineer, Director of IT, CTO, VP of Operations, lead security engineer, senior network engineer, senior lead engineer, lead engineer, network firefighter, IS manager, senior consultant, director of engineering, consultant, engineer, director of operations, network manager, senior system administrator, instructor, system administrator, software development manager, system programmer, trainer, and lab manager. As an employee or consultant, Jeff has contributed to teams in the following companies (in no particular order): Western Digital, Oracle, Sun Microsystems, Pillar Data Systems, First Link Technology, the Denver Newspaper Agency, StorageWay, XOR, First Link Consulting, Denver Online Development, Internet One, The Root Group, the Consortium for International Earth Science Information Network, Storage Technology, the University of Colorado, the University of Michigan, Frontenac Company, netLibrary, Service Metrics (an Exodus company), VICORP Restaurants, US West Advanced Technologies, the Colorado Rockies, Denver Public Library, Berger & Company, Great West Life, the Rocky Mountain News, and others. Jeff has been consulting (on and off) since 1989 and seems to gravitate toward production networks that need major work and/or complete overhauls. One of Jeff's major accomplishments is a complete re-engineering and implementation of the production network of a major restaurant chain's corporate network, without down time, and under budget. Another challenging project was introducing enterprise security into a production network that had been implemented without any provision for security. In 2002, he was hired to design and build a world class enterprise infrastructure, including redundant sites with hot backup databases, data sets, and hardware for a well funded and rapidly growing start-up. Jeff has contributed code to various system programming efforts and chapters and/or background information for various books and publications. He was the primary author for the 1991 re-write of sudo, the popular UNIX security tool. He has taught countless classes in Security, UNIX, TCP/IP networking, Microsoft NT, network engineering, storage theory, and storage systems performance, including full semester classes on C programming, UNIX, and System Administration at the Universities of Michigan and Colorado. Jeff enjoys an environment in which opinions and knowledge are freely shared and people are encouraged to learn. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- + Community Activities Baseball Umpire 2014 - present Colorado High Schools, Longmont Baseball League Volunteer Baseball Coach 2003 - 2013 Multiple Leagues St. Brigit Episcopal Church, Frederick, CO 2006 - present Vestry member of parent church (St. Mary Magdalene).
