The package /usr/local/pkg/hpnpl-e.10.34 was installed on the UNIX print servers to make adding a new printer to the print server much easier than the alternatives. This package takes care of all filter considerations. To add a new printer to the UNIX print server: $ sudo /usr/local/pkg/hpnpl-e.10.34/admin/hppi - Choose 'Spooler Administration' - Choose'Add a Printer to Local Spooler' - Give printer a host (queue) name (this should be in /etc/hosts and DNS) - Assign type 35 HP LaserJet 4000 Series for HP4100s - Assign type 18 HP LaserJet 5Si / 5SiMX for HP 5sis - Ensure the queue name is the same as the hostname to make things easier on us. You may have to change the LP destination (queue) name at this point - Choose '0' to configure the printer - Choose 'y' to continue In the event you are installing a non HP printer: $ sudo /usr/local/pkg/hpnpl-e.10.34/admin/hppi - Choose 'Spooler Administration' - Choose'Add a Printer to Local Spooler' - Give printer a host (queue) name (this should be in /etc/hosts and DNS) - A non HP printer will give an error similar to: - The HP Printer Installer for Unix can ping the device. - The problem may be: - incorrect GET community name! - it is not a network printer! - other. - You will be asked if you want to continue twice, the default answer to these questions will not allow you to continue - Ignore the error, and continue the process. - Assign type 58 HP LaserJet Printer not given in this list - Ensure the queue name is the same as the hostname to make things easie r on us.
