NT Second Level Cache Tweak

Last Updated: 24 March 1998

By default, NT only uses 256K of Level 2 cache per processor. If you have 512K, or more, you might want to tweak your registry to let NT know... If you don't know how much level 2 cache you have, pay attention while your machine is booting.

To do this, run regedt32 from the Start -> Run window.

  1. select HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
  2. select CurrentControlSet
  3. select Control
  4. select Session Manager
  5. select Memory Management
  6. double click on SecondLevelDataCache
  7. click on decimal
  8. enter your cache size
  9. close regedt32
  10. reboot
