Coarse Wavelength Divisional Multiplexing (CWDM) - proprietary, both ends must be same vendor, wavelengths (lambdas) are > 50 micron wavelength spacing, usually 8 or less
Dense Wavelength Divisional Multiplexing (DWDM) - ITU standard, up to 50 lambdas < 50 micron spacing
10 Gig Ethernet is 1 optical channel (serial)
baseband - one signal on the media
broadband - multiple signals on the media, usually frequency multiplexed
IEEE 802.1p - prioritization; Quality of Service (QoS)
IEEE 802.1q - tagging; VLANs
IEEE 802.1w - rapid spanning tree; rapid fail-over and convergence
